Students from the University of Belgrade are protesting through a 80-kilometer march to Novi Sad to honor 15 victims of a tragic canopy collapse. With at least 400 participants, the two-day walk aims to unite with local students and demand accountability for violence. Petar Gardovic, a political science student, emphasizes the importance of accountability for transgressions. Despite government claims that student demands have been met, unrest persists as students continue their fight for justice and better conditions in Serbia.
"All we are asking for is something that should be a matter of course in every normal state: that anyone who beats somebody up and anyone who kills should be held accountable for their actions; that those who are responsible are named and that everyone must bear the consequences of their actions or transgressions."
Petar Gardovic stated, "I was not at all apprehensive. In fact, I was certain that it wouldn't be too taxing to walk 40 kilometers a day for two days, especially given the motivation behind the march."
