A year ago, hundreds of illegal immigrants lived in the barns of the Kárász farm near Horgos on Hungary's southern border. Today's environment is starkly different.
The Serbian authorities systematically evacuated the farm and collected migrants one by one from the surrounding area, transporting them to camps in Kikinda and Preševo.
A local woman, Aunt Martha, said that since the summer the area has become much safer, reflecting a reduction in migration pressure.
Despite the Hungarian Interior Ministry's reports of hundreds at the southern border, locals assert that they have not seen any refugees for months.
