Protests have persisted almost daily in Serbia since the collapse of a train station in Novi Sad last November, resulting in 15 fatalities. The incident has prompted widespread condemnation of corruption and inadequate construction oversight. In response to the unrest, Prime Minister Milos Vucevic announced his resignation, stating it was a move to de-escalate tensions and encourage dialogue among citizens. His resignation needs parliamentary confirmation, which will decide whether to form a new government or call for snap elections within a 30-day period.
"It is my appeal for everyone to calm down the passions and return to dialogue," Vucevic said, adding that his resignation was aimed at lowering tensions in the country.
