Serbia: Minister to resign over train station roof collapse DW 11/04/2024
Briefly

During a live broadcast, Goran Vesic announced, "Tomorrow morning I will officially submit my resignation as minister of construction, transportation and infrastructure... I submit the resignation as a responsible man who wants to show by personal example that in today's Serbia there is a moral responsibility since such a terrible accident happened under the department that I lead."
Despite announcing his resignation, Vesic stated that he did not "accept the guilt for the deaths of 14 people" killed in the train station roof collapse.
Following the tragic incident in Novi Sad, protests erupted as people expressed outrage over what they perceive as insufficient oversight on construction activities, with protestors even painting their hands red to symbolize their outrage and blame on the government.
The roof collapse occurred just months after the Novi Sad railway station's renovation was completed, raising serious questions about the quality and oversight of construction projects still under development.
