ESB Networks announced that a significant majority of customers affected by Storm Éowyn may have their power restored by January 31, with around 100,000 potentially waiting until the following week. Schools are set to reopen once power is restored and safety assessments are completed, with local management making closure decisions based on conditions. Despite restoration efforts for 490,000 customers, approximately 278,000 remain without power, and Storm Éowyn is noted as the most damaging storm in ESB's history, affecting record numbers of customers.
We anticipate that the vast majority of customers who lost power during Storm Éowyn have supply restored by Friday night, January 31.
Schools should carry out safety checks on buildings and facilities, check for fallen wires and any other damage near the school before reopening.
This evening, there are still approximately 278,000 customers without power supply - ahead of forecasts of more unpleasant weather which may hamper recovery efforts.
Storm Éowyn was the worst storm experienced by ESB Networks both in terms of customers losing supply and the scale of damage across the network.
