San Francisco Ballet's 'Manon' sets stage for big, dramatic, British season
Briefly

Tamara Rojo, now the artistic director of San Francisco Ballet, brings Kenneth MacMillan's 'Manon' to the Bay Area, showcasing the ballet's original sets and costumes from the Royal Ballet. This season focuses on British works, influenced by her experiences at prestigious English ballet institutions. Opening on January 24, 'Manon' is the kickoff to a series that also includes McGregor's 'Chroma' and Khan's North American premiere of 'Dust'. Dancer Jasmine Jimison highlights Rojo’s inspiring leadership style, emphasizing her knowledge and supporting dancers' interpretations.
For me, (the costumes are) important because (they are) the vision of the original artist that created the piece. To present ('Manon') faithfully in the way it was conceived, it was very important to me.
Working with (Rojo) is very inspiring, because she performed ('Manon'), and she has so much knowledge and experience. And she also gives us a lot of freedom in how we get to interpret it.
