This is an important win because this is an Open Division, playoff caliber matchup, Salesian coach Bill Mellis said. I think we came out and did pretty well in the first half and established ourselves.
Salesian jumped out to a 17-4 start in the first quarter and didn't relinquish any momentum to the Wildcats. The Pride took their biggest lead of the first half on a 3-pointer from junior guard Isaiah Davis that made the score 36-21.
Carlton Perrilliat led the way for Salesian with 15 points. Leon Powe added 13 points and Elias Obenyah had 10. Dougherty Valley guard Rylan Sevilla had 10 points in the loss.
Dougherty Valley was without star forward Jalen Stokes for the 11th consecutive game. He was ruled ineligible for the remainder of the season just over a week ago, but the school is in the process of appealing.
