Running From the L.A. Fires With Nowhere to Go
Briefly

Photographer Michelle Groskopf observed at the Pasadena Convention Center, where evacuees from the Eaton fire sought shelter: "The majority of the people had nowhere else to go... It definitely had the feeling of being very different from all the rich people who are fleeing to hotels and whatnot." This highlights the stark societal divide in times of crisis, where the most vulnerable face severe hardships in contrast to those with means.
Groskopf also noted, "Some people didn't even know what happened to their homes, they just assumed. They were like, Oh, my neighbor's house burned down, so mine probably did, too." This reflects the chaos and uncertainty that many faced during the evacuations, emphasizing a painful sense of helplessness amongst evacuees.
