Rough Trade is expanding its store at Rockefeller Center to include a larger space for vinyl, merchandise, and live events, featuring an all-ages audience. Co-owner Stephen Godfroy emphasizes the store’s mission to provide egalitarian access to music, as entry to concerts is included in the price of an LP. Since relocating to Rockefeller Center in 2013, sales have significantly increased thanks to its busy location. The new layout will accommodate 300 people, tripling current capacity and further promoting artists through intimate performances.
The fact that our in-store shows are all-ages, and admission is the price of the LP, provides this egalitarian, civic service in a way, said Stephen Godfroy.
Sales have doubled since the store moved to Rockefeller Center. It's not just that the area is busy; it's relatively easy to get to for a lot of people, Godfroy said.
