Framework CEO Nirav Patel performed a remarkable live demo by modifying a Framework Laptop, replacing its x86 motherboard with a RISC-V board on stage at the Ubuntu Summit.
DeepComputing has begun accepting early access orders for its DC-ROMA RISC-V main board, featuring a StarFive JH7110 SoC with quad-core CPU and support for 8 GB RAM.
Despite its potential, the StarFive JH7110 SoC offers limited performance; during testing, high-definition video playback was smooth but overall system responsiveness was sluggish.
The transition to RISC-V in frameworks like this marks an important step for modular laptops, expanding beyond conventional x86 architecture into more diverse computing possibilities.
