The rescue operation for Ottavia Piana, a trapped caving instructor, has involved approximately 100 rescuers working in shifts to reach her at a depth of 585 metres.
Rescuers faced significant challenges, including a narrow 100-meter tunnel which complicated the retrieval process; they are currently working to widen this section without compromising safety.
"One thing is certain, these kinds of operations are very long," stated Mauro Guiducci, indicating the complexity and duration typical in cave rescue scenarios.
Despite her injuries, Piana remains alert and responsive, even expressing improved psychological wellbeing during the rescue effort led by numerous skilled professionals.
