On 6th February 1958, Manchester United's team plane crashed in Munich after a failed takeoff attempt due to icy conditions. The incident resulted in the deaths of eight players, trainers, club officials, and journalists, marking one of the darkest moments in sports history. Manager Matt Busby, who defied the Football Association to compete in Europe, struggled with guilt but ultimately decided to continue, leading the club to rebuild and honor the memory of those lost. At 3.04pm on 6th February 1958, the aeroplane carrying the Manchester United team home from a European Cup tie against Red Star Belgrade crashed off the end of a runway after a routine refuelling stop in Munich, Germany.
Eight players lost their lives as a result, as did trainers Bert Whalley and Tom Curry, club secretary Walter Crickmer, and eight journalists.
