Record toll for migrants missing at sea: Spanish NGO DW 12/26/2024
Briefly

Caminando Fronteras reported a record 10,547 migrants died or disappeared attempting to reach Spain by sea in 2024, averaging 30 deaths daily, an increase from 18 in 2023.
Helena Maleno, founder of Walking Borders, stated, 'These figures are evidence of a profound failure of rescue and protection systems. More than 10,400 people dead or missing in a single year is an unacceptable tragedy.'
The Atlantic route was highlighted as the deadliest with 9,757 deaths recorded, while there was an increase in tragedies on the Mauritania route, a critical departure point.
