Chief Executive of the Police Ombudsman's Office, Hugh Hume, emphasized the importance of privacy and ethical handling of body-worn video footage by police officers.
Investigators revealed that from December 2019 to November 2022, a specific video was accessed 248 times by officers, raising serious concerns about misuse and privacy.
The investigation highlighted the lack of control over body-worn video access, with most officers showing negligence towards the privacy rights of individuals involved in arrests.
It was found that only six individuals had legitimate reasons to access the controversial footage, indicating a significant breach of protocol by the majority.
