Thousands of protesters in Abkhazia stormed government buildings to oppose a proposal allowing Russians to buy property, fearing it would inflate prices and increase Moscow's influence.
The protests, which erupted in response to a proposed property deal, saw demonstrators storm parliament, injuring at least eight, and causing chaos in Sukhumi.
Demonstrators are demanding the resignation of President Aslan Bzhania and the removal of the property measure, vowing to occupy government buildings until their demands are met.
Local reports indicate that unrest had escalated following the arrest of opposition figures, escalating tensions and culminating in the storming of key government sites.
