Firefighters battled a significant brush fire in Prospect Park Friday night amid dry conditions in New York City, drawing over 100 responders and injuring one firefighter.
The fire broke out within the Nethermead, a heavily forested area. Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker highlighted the absence of any threat to civilian structures during the incident.
As New York City remains under a drought watch, the ongoing dry spell is believed to have contributed to the severe conditions leading to the wildfire.
The Parks Department will assess the damage and collaborate with the Prospect Park Alliance to restore the affected forested area, as the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
