A violent inmate at Mountjoy Prison attacked a prison officer using a makeshift weapon, resulting in serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect, in his early 20s, has a long history of violent offenses, including stabbings. Previously housed in a Challenging Behaviour Unit due to his volatile nature, he has been under constant scrutiny and disciplinary measures. Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan expressed concern over the incident and assured that a thorough investigation would follow to ensure justice is served.
The suspect for the attack is a serial offender who has previously been jailed over two serious stabbings in Dublin city centre.
This inmate is a particularly violent individual and even though he is only in his early 20s he has dozens of criminal convictions.
