Prince Andrew has opted out of the royal family's pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace amid controversy over his alleged connections with an accused Chinese spy.
The allegations surfaced during a high court hearing, where it was claimed that businessman Yang Tengbo, a friend of Andrew's, was involved in espionage, which Yang denies.
Despite the controversy, Andrew's office stated that he ceased all contact with Yang once concerns were raised and that all interactions were conducted through official channels.
This year's pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace is seen as a family gathering, with about 70 members of the extended royal family expected to attend.
