Prep roundup: Salesian trounces St. Mary's-Berkeley to capture TCAL title

The Tri-County Athletic League Rock Division championship game held in Oakland was an extraordinary event, featuring the Salesian basketball team defeating St. Mary's-Berkeley decisively, 71-38. The game, hosted at the impressive Henry J. Kaiser Center for the Arts, boasted a vibrant atmosphere complete with a DJ and a Halo video board. Salesian's junior talent, particularly Elias Obenyah, stood out with significant contributions. The team's physicality and a fast-paced strategy were essential in securing their championship victory, highlighting their dominance and the exciting basketball showcase weekend.

In this game, we came out with more physicality and intensity, Obenyah said. We took it upon ourselves to not let them beat us and we had to fight back.

Salesian coach Bill Mellis said, "We knew that. So, we wanted to get the game up tempo, and if we could get some steals, which we did."
