The new £12m contract with Fujitsu, which was signed last week, will run until March 2026, as the Post Office awaits decisions on Horizon replacement.
Railton underscored that the push to build a new system in-house was flawed, stating, 'There were many horror stories of people trying to build systems in-house; this was always set up to fail.'
Sources indicated the likelihood that the in-house project, deemed as 'unachievable,' would be scrapped in favor of purchasing an off-the-shelf solution.
As costs for the NBIT project soared by £1bn, the transformation chief acknowledged a review and adjustment of the Post Office's approach to replacing Horizon.
