'People were saying the bus is either a ghost bus or delayed so badly it's unreliable' - commuter concern over route changes in Chapelizod
"By the end of September, people started emailing me saying they were concerned about the route changing,"
"By October, the inbox was literally inundated with people messaging saying it wasn't working."
"We acknowledge that the changes require some passengers to make their journey in a different way. In some instances, people who previously had to interchange will now have a direct service, while others may now have to interchange where previously they did,"
"People were saying the bus is either a ghost bus or delayed so badly it's unreliable,"
Route 80 began operating on 19 October, replacing the former 26 between Liffey Valley and Arran Quay and parts of the 140 to Rathmines and Dartry. Commuters report longer journey times, frequent delays or cancellations, overcrowding, and reduced access to north-side destinations including O'Connell Street. Chapelizod residents say peak trips can take almost as long as walking. Social Democrats TD Jen Cummins received a flood of complaints and convened a public meeting attended by more than 200 residents who described unreliable and missing buses. The National Transport Authority said the route remains relatively new, followed extensive public consultations, offers 10–15 minute daytime frequency and a new 24-hour service, and that transfers are covered by the TFI-90 fare.
