Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes recently addressed incorrect statements made by Sen. Tommy Tuberville and former President Trump regarding his recruitment to Texas Tech. Trump claimed that Tuberville coached Mahomes, but Mahomes clarified that he arrived at the school after Tuberville left for another coaching position. In a subsequent interview, Tuberville acknowledged he never coached Mahomes, only recruited him, a fact corroborated by Kliff Kingsbury, who was the coach responsible for bringing Mahomes to Texas Tech. Mahomes also indicated a lack of memory regarding Tuberville personally, further undermining the senator's claims.
At an executive order signing ceremony, Trump mistakenly claimed that Sen. Tuberville coached Mahomes at Texas Tech, which he corrected, stating Tuberville left before Mahomes arrived.
Sen. Tuberville later clarified on The Megyn Kelly Show that he merely recruited Mahomes and did not coach him, contradicting Trump's assertion.
Mahomes stated, 'He did not recruit me at the time, and I don't remember if I ever got to meet him or not,' indicating Tuberville's claims are inaccurate.
Kingsbury, the former coach who did recruit Mahomes, emphasized, 'We went after him hard,' redirecting credit away from Tuberville.
