"My rule, set in stone, is never explain when people disagree with me. It only makes things worse. Well, I'm making an exception here, to put things right."
"As you know, I am against the split season in its current format. In theory, it is a great idea, but I still think it needs a fair amount of tweaking. The fact that I have been so vocal means that I am viewed by many people as being anti-club."
The current split season format has conceptual advantages but needs substantial adjustments to function properly. A general rule against explaining disagreements exists because explanations can worsen disputes, yet an exception was made to clarify a position. Opposition to the present split season format coexists with acknowledgement of its potential benefit in principle. Vocal criticism of the format has produced perceptions among many observers that opposition equals being against the club. Format changes and clearer communication are necessary to address concerns and reduce misperception.
