Passenger Jet That Crashed Near Washington D.C. Carried Champion Figure Skaters

On January 30, 2025, it was confirmed by the U.S. Figure Skating Association that numerous members of the skating community were on American Airlines Flight 5342, which collided with a U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopter in Washington D.C. The flight was returning from the National Development Camp associated with the U.S. Figure Skating Championships held earlier in January. Among the passengers were noted coaches Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, who significantly contribute to the sport.
