Parents of LGBTQ+ children 'scared' about state of the UK for queer kids
Briefly

Parents of LGBTQ+ children are urging Members of Parliament to advocate for their rights, especially in light of two controversial education policies proposed by the former Conservative government. At a recent event organized by FFLAG, volunteers including chairwoman Sarah Furley expressed deep concerns over a draft guidance for gender-questioning children and changes to relationships and sex education, citing them as harmful and reminiscent of past discriminatory legislation. FFLAG advocates for the withdrawal of a puberty blocker ban and calls for stronger protections for healthcare, reflecting fears about new barriers affecting their children's well-being.
FFLAG was founded as a campaigning organisation in the 1980s but more recently we have focused on our mission to support parents as they navigate what it means to be a parent of an LGBT+ child.
The charity believes that the RSHE changes would be "the equivalent of a new Section 28", the Thatcher-era legislation that banned the "promotion" of homosexuality in classrooms.
