Panama accuses US of peddling intolerable falsehood' about canal
Briefly

Panama's president, Jose Raul Mulino, has publicly countered US State Department claims that Panama agreed to waive tolls for US government vessels navigating the Panama Canal. The situation escalated as President Trump voiced intentions regarding the canal's control, incorrectly stating it was returned to Panama only to be taken over by China. Mulino denounced Trump's narrative as baseless, emphasizing that no changes to canal fees had been made. The diplomatic tensions raised concerns across Latin America, particularly regarding US influence in the region and potential military measures to protect perceived interests.
I am extremely surprised by yesterday's state department announcement because they are making important statements based on a falsehood, and this is intolerable, quite simply intolerable.
Trump believed the current position of influence and control of the Chinese Communist Party over the Panama Canal area is a threat to the canal and was unacceptable.
