Ozzy was approached in 2001 after Gary Cherone's tenure in Van Halen ended in 1999, and before Sammy Hagar's return in 2003. Plans for an Ozzy-fronted album faded with the launch of MTV's The Osbournes reality show.
Chris Cornell jammed with Van Halen members Alex and Eddie in a fragile part of his life. Alex recalls a 45-minute session where Cornell got so into playing he started bleeding.
Discussing his relationship with Ozzy, Alex noted that they had been great friends for a long time, and lamented how The Osbournes interfered with their potential music collaboration.
Reflecting on Chris Cornell's talent, Alex expressed that their jam session was so intense and passionate that it's a regret both he and the band never pursued him for the lead vocalist.
