Over 1.2 million people, about 43 percent of eligible voters, had cast ballots by 5 p.m. on September 28. Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 9 p.m., with results expected soon after. The contest pits the ruling Action and Solidarity party (PAS) against a pro-Russian Patriotic Electoral Bloc and the Socialists led by Igor Dodon. The war in neighboring Ukraine has disrupted trade, driven up energy prices, and pushed inflation higher in Moldova. Kremlin-linked disinformation networks and AI-generated fake accounts spread pro-Russian narratives and false fraud claims. The local watchdog Promo-LEX reported hundreds of incidents including group voting, electoral advertising inside polling stations, organized voter transportation, and breaches of voting secrecy. President Maia Sandu urged citizens to vote to save Moldova's democracy.
