OPW dubbed 'Office of Posh Walls' after it spent 490,000 on Ballsbridge project
Briefly

The costs for replacing a wall at the Workplace Relations Commission HQ in Dublin surged to €490,000, more than double the initial estimate of €200,000. Delays were caused by the discovery of a live ESB cable and a leaking pipe, which necessitated extensive remedial work. The Office of Public Works (OPW) faced sharp criticism from opposition parties for the exorbitant costs associated with this project and others, raising questions about oversight and budget management. Alongside this project, the OPW has been scrutinized for high expenses on several recent works.
Nearly €500,000 is an eye-watering sum to repair a wall and the OPW has questions to answer. The initial budget of €213,000 more than doubled when problems developed with the project.
The OPW acknowledged there were very significant delays as well as increased costs on the job, which were unavoidable due to unexpected complications found during preliminary works.
