Openreach plans to transition all customers to fiber instead of copper cabling, announcing a year’s notice for telcos if fiber is available to 75% of premises.
The recently disclosed Tranche 18 includes 79 locations, affecting over 900,000 premises, bringing the total exchanges under 'stop sell' rules to 748.
Full Fiber is now accessible to over 15 million premises, a significant increase from 12.5 million last year, part of BT's goal to reach 25 million by 2026.
Despite ambitious goals, Openreach's switch from PSTN to an entire IP-based network faced delays, now rescheduled for completion by January 2027 due to the government charter.
