Briefly

An underground network has emerged in the UK, utilizing peer-to-peer message boards for sharing explicit images of women, driven by systematic misogyny. According to the Revenge Porn Helpline, this trend shows an alarming increase, as men actively seek out images of specific women with derogatory remarks. The hotline reported a 57% rise in annual reports, marking a disturbing shift from traditional revenge porn, indicating a deeper societal issue. Despite legislation against revenge porn since 2015, convictions remain disappointingly low, exposing the inadequacies of legal measures against this growing phenomenon.

Revenge porn became an offence in England and Wales in April 2015, but the number of convictions remains low.
