A recent survey by the Irish Red Cross reveals a strong willingness among Irish adults to volunteer in humanitarian efforts. Over 70% indicated a readiness to assist those in need, especially targeting vulnerable groups such as the elderly and people living in isolation. Notably, women and younger adults (18-34 years) expressed a higher interest in volunteering, including at animal shelters. The findings underscore a community commitment to addressing climate-related challenges and supporting needy individuals, with a call for greater assistance from local organizations and agencies.
This survey shows us that Ireland's communities are increasingly willing to help with more climate-related challenges such as flooding, the aftermath of destructive storms and freezing temperatures as well as caring for the more vulnerable in our society.
Women and young people aged 18 to 34 were significantly more likely to express an interest in volunteering at shelters.
