An equipment failure at the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine has resulted in one death and left twelve others trapped about 1,000 feet underground. Rescuers are working on recovering them.
Sheriff Jason Mikesell stated that the trapped individuals are in safe conditions and in communication with authorities, while eleven others have already been rescued.
Governor Jared Polis announced that the state is providing resources to support the rescue efforts, emphasizing the commitment to a speedy and safe resolution of the situation.
The mine, which operates as a tourist attraction, has not faced any incidents since 1986, raising concerns about the safety of visitors and operations.
