Bee Whitaker, chief executive of Harmony House, described the theft as 'distressing' and emphasized that, having operated since 1993, it's the first such incident to occur. 'We are all quite shocked,' she said.
The stolen tools are essential for Harmony House's operations, leading to necessary cancellations that directly impact vulnerable community members: 'There is going to be around 30 members of the community this week alone that we would have otherwise been able to support.'
Whitaker highlighted the unfortunate timing of the theft: 'It's awful timing when they are coming home with wet and slippery shoes from being out in the rain.' This reflects the urgency of their services.
The theft not only incurs a financial loss for replacing the stolen items but also critically affects their ability to assist the vulnerable individuals they serve in Barking and Dagenham.
