Old Harbor Native Corporation and Alaska Communications Partner for Tribal Broadband Network
Briefly

Alaskans in Kodiak Island's Tribal communities will benefit from Project Nunapet, a broadband initiative funded by the NTIA's Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program Grant. This project entails the installation of a subsea fiber optic cable from Homer to Kodiak, providing Gigabit internet service to 570 homes in Old Harbor, Chiniak, Akhiok, and Womens Bay. The initiative aims to bridge the digital divide, supporting improved education, healthcare, and overall quality of life while reinforcing the cultural connection of the Alutiiq people to their land and sea.
The reliable, affordable, high-speed connectivity delivered through this project will serve as the foundation for education, healthcare, economic growth and quality of life.
Nunapet is an Alutiiq word meaning 'our lands' and serves as a reminder of the connection Alutiiq people have to the land and sea.
