Oaklandside's Natalie Orenstein wins award for eviction court coverage

Orenstein worked on the story for a month, interviewing tenants and lawyers, and visiting the courthouse to listen to legal proceedings. She also obtained never-before published data on the number of eviction cases in the county.
The eviction bans were unprecedented policies meant to protect renters during the pandemic. I knew it would be important to spend time witnessing what happened when they were finally lifted.
