"Getting divorced or separating in Sweden is much simpler than in most readers' home countries, and men and women are treated much more equally, according to the readers who answered our survey. But not everyone welcomed these differences. Of the 17 readers who answered our survey, eleven said they were impressed or even surprised by how simple and fast the divorce process was in Sweden. One, an Indian chef in Gothenburg, said it took just two weeks to complete."
"All that is required if the both parties have agreed to divorce and if they have no children is for an application to be sent to the local court, using an online form accessed using BankID. Several respondents praised the process as fast, impartial, efficient and rules-based, as one American in Stockholm put it. Everything is digital and straightforward, agreed a female scientist from India. If both partners agree on custody and divorce, it's pretty easy compared to my native country."
Divorce and separation in Sweden are generally fast, simple, digital, and considered more gender-equal than many other countries. When both partners agree and have no children, an application is submitted to the local court via an online form accessed with BankID, often eliminating lawyers and in-person appearances. Several respondents reported completions within weeks and praised the process as fast, impartial, efficient and rules-based. Many contrasted Sweden's system with more cumbersome or punitive home-country procedures where one partner can stall proceedings and custody defaults heavily toward one parent. A minority worried the process may be almost too easy.
