Norway releases cargo ship in Baltic cable sabotage probe DW 01/31/2025
Briefly

Norwegian police released the Russian-crewed ship Silver Dania after failing to find evidence connecting it to the damage of an underwater fiber optic cable in the Baltic Sea. The vessel was detained following a request from Latvian authorities after the cable was ruptured. Despite being held in Tromso for inspections, officials found no reason to keep the ship, and it cooperated fully with authorities. Norwegian investigators also indicated a related investigation involving another vessel, suggesting wider concerns about possible sabotage of critical infrastructure in the region.
The investigation will continue, but we see no reason for the ship to remain in Tromso any longer," police attorney Ronny Joergensen said in a statement.
We have no involvement in this whatsoever," Fossmark told the AP news agency. "We did not have any anchors out or do anything, so that will be confirmed today."
