North Korea claims that more than 1.4 million young people have signed up to join the army, in response to escalating tensions with South Korea, amid accusations of drone incursions.
KCNA emphasized this nationwide enlistment is part of a struggle to eliminate what it calls 'ROK scum' and to respond to provocations that violate the sovereignty of the DPRK.
Military recruitment spikes are common in North Korea during times of conflict, as seen previously when mass enlistments occurred in response to perceived threats from South Korea and the United States.
The KCNA report suggested that if conflict arises, it would lead to the total destruction of South Korea, reflecting the severe rhetoric employed by Pyongyang.
