NordVPN has introduced the NordWhisper protocol to enhance users' ability to circumvent restrictive networks that typically block VPN connections. Unlike traditional VPN traffic, which can be easily detected, NordWhisper employs web tunnel technology to mimic ordinary internet traffic. This makes it more challenging for network administrators to identify VPN usage. However, the protocol may operate at slower speeds compared to conventional VPNs, so it is advised to use it primarily in blocking scenarios. The rollout will be gradual across various operating systems, starting with Windows, Android, and Linux.
When it does arrive, NordVPN users will find the option to enable the new protocol within the NordVPN app connection settings.
The mimicry makes it harder for advanced network filters to recognize VPN encryptions, but NordVPN says that the NordWhisper protocol "may work slower" than traditional VPN connections.
