Nicole Shanahan, former running mate of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has vowed to financially support primary challengers against senators who oppose his nomination as HHS Secretary. In a strong statement, she emphasized that her message is bipartisan and indicated that she would mobilize significant support against dissenting votes. Kennedy's confirmation hearing begins soon after his August endorsement of Trump, who nominated him to the post. Shanahan has previously played a substantial role in Kennedy's campaign, investing nearly $19 million to support his candidacy.
This is a bipartisan message, and it comes directly from me. While Bobby may be willing to play nice, I won't.
If you vote against him, I will personally fund challengers to primary you in your next election, and I will enlist hundreds of thousands to join me.
Kennedy ended his independent presidential bid in August to endorse Donald Trump. In November, Trump nominated Kennedy to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.
Shanahan listed 13 senators in both parties whose votes she was watching, including Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock and Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell.
