New street barriers aiming to deter sex work causing slew of safety issues in SF neighborhood
Briefly

Residents of Shotwell Street express frustration over the new barriers aimed at curbing prostitution, stating that the measures lead to increased chaos and safety hazards instead.
"It's a Band-Aid. It doesn't help," said Dagmar Eisele, a Shotwell resident, highlighting that the barriers enforce a temporary solution without addressing the underlying issues of sex work.
Art Raedeke, another resident, documented concerning incidents, including an ambulance struggling to navigate around the barriers, noting, "He had to walk down the street with this gurney because he couldn't get through."
SFMTA Director Victoria Weiss acknowledged the problem stating, "we will communicate with our emergency responders and let them know that they can go over the barrier," showing intent to fix emergency response issues.
