Kentish Town Tube station has been closed since June 26 last year as work to replace its aging escalators continues, with a new reopening date set for December.
TfL has confirmed that inspections revealed some structural elements of the Kentish Town station were beyond repair, resulting in increased project scope and delayed reopening.
The existing escalators, bespoke to the station and laid in 1997, presented challenges in sourcing parts, prompting the need for a full replacement.
The newly installed escalators at Kentish Town will be energy-efficient models, similar to those on the Elizabeth line, designed to last around 40 years.
