Mary Beth Thompson, the newly elected trustee, decided to resign from her position as principal to avoid any conflict of interest with her new responsibilities.
In her email, Thompson expressed her commitment to minimizing distractions, stating, 'I am committed to ensuring that neither my family nor the incredible work being done at Summit Prep and in our district is overshadowed by distraction or division from my new position with the district.'
A letter from attorney Chad Morgan indicated that legal action could be pursued if Thompson continued as principal while serving on the board.
Despite initially stating she would recuse herself from discussions about Summit as an elected board member, Thompson's decision to resign ultimately upheld educational code guidelines.
