""If I had known this in advance, I would never have organized it," she said in a post on X."
""If you think you can intimidate us, tough luck. We will never let our beautiful country be taken away by extremist troublemakers," the party's leader, Rob Jette, wrote on X."
""Blocking the highway and violence against the police is totally, absolutely unacceptable. Idiots," he wrote online."
An anti-immigration protest in The Hague organized by a right-wing activist known as "Els Rechts" turned violent, prompting police to use tear gas and a water cannon. Protesters, many waving Dutch flags and linked to far-right groups, threw rocks and bottles at police and damaged an office of centrist party D66. The organizer said she had assumed people would demonstrate peacefully and would not have organized it if she had known. It is unclear whether anyone was arrested or injured. The unrest occurred ahead of a snap election called for October 29 after Geert Wilders pulled his party from the coalition; Wilders condemned the violence.
