"That's normal. The local fans get interested closer and I think the beginning of the torch relay will be a very important moment for people realizing that,"
"We had some tickets on the market a couple of days ago and they were sold out in in just a couple of hours,"
"People are really going in and buying our merchandise, which is also a good sign,"
Construction on the main hockey arena is incomplete and spectator and media areas at the sliding venue still require finishing. With two months to go, only slightly more than 850,000 of 1.5 million tickets have been sold, with international sales meeting expectations but local interest lagging. Organizers anticipate local interest to rise as the torch relay progresses and have used promotions such as a Black Friday 20% discount and discounted ski lift passes for ticket purchasers. Additional tickets for the Feb. 6 opening ceremony and the Feb. 22 men's hockey final were released and quickly sold out. Merchandise sales at the Milan Cortina store have been strong.
