Utility giant National Grid has filed a federal lawsuit against 40 defendants claiming that other polluters are not contributing their fair share to clean up the Gowanus Canal.
The Gowanus Canal, a toxic Superfund site, resulted from years of pollution by industrial businesses and government agencies, leading to a lifeless waterway.
