The National Gallery announced a ban on liquids for visitors starting October 18, 2024, in response to multiple recent attacks on artworks, aiming to protect its collection.
In light of recent violence against art, the National Gallery stated, "The collection we hold is irreplaceable...we have been forced to consider putting more barriers between the people and their artworks."
The Gallery expressed regret over the inconvenience to visitors, saying, "We are sorry that visitors are, for the time being, not going to receive the welcome...but we hope they understand why it is necessary for us to do this."
The decision follows five separate attacks on paintings since July 2022, including well-known works by Van Gogh and Constable, prompting stricter security measures.
