More than half of the monkeys bred for medical research that escaped from a South Carolina compound have been recovered unharmed, with ongoing recovery efforts.
Police reported that twenty-four monkeys were captured recently, one day after another escapee was found, while a sizeable group remains active and in the trees.
The escape occurred when an Alpha Genesis employee failed to properly lock a door, allowing 43 Rhesus macaques to flee, although all are now reportedly in good health.
Alpha Genesis, alongside federal health officials, confirmed that there is no public health risk from the monkeys, as they are strictly bred for medical research.
