Over 80 people have been killed in recent clashes in Colombia's north-east, prompting a humanitarian crisis as thousands flee conflicts between the ELN and former FARC members.
Governor William Villamizar lamented the dire conditions in the Catatumbo region, stating, 'Boys, girls, young people, teenagers, entire families are showing up with nothing...'.
The violence intensified after Colombia suspended peace negotiations with the ELN, with recent battles also including confrontations with the Clan del Golfo, a major cocaine trafficking group.
The ELN warned former FARC members against attacking civilians, stating 'there was no other way out than armed confrontation,' highlighting the escalation of brutal violence.
